GNU.media is the extension of the FSF Four Freedoms into the realm of mass communications. We are using the light ignited by the Free Software Foundation and exploring a holistic view of Free Culture and Open Society.

GNU.media consists of methods and tools for multimedia production, distribution, and mass communication with an emphasis on personal and cultural freedoms.

Conceptual frameworks, such as the Open System Interconnection model, exist to help contextualize the realm of GNU.media. These overviews offer an astronaut's view of the interrelationships in our mass communications ecosystem while allowing for individual pursuit in specialized areas.
