About GNU.media
GNUmedia Society promotes the importance of universal access to information and technology, multimedia liberation, culture sharing and community oriented media production methods.
Additional Information
It is the aim of GNU Media to promote media production methods which not only allow but encourage sharing and active participation in the creative/technical process.
The GNU/Linux movement and Free Software Foundation have set a solid precedent for the production, distribution and modification of publicly accessible software.
GNUmedia Society believes that free multimedia is a matter of the individuals’ freedom to play/preform, copy, distribute, study, change and improve the Media. More precisely, it refers to three kinds of freedom for the users of the multimedia:
-
Universal access to media and mass communications infrastructure as well as multimedia source files.
-
The freedom to copy, preform, display and redistribute media; for any purpose and with any device.
- The freedom to create, preform, display, release and distribute derivative works of said media.
Together we can explore the process of creating, critiquing, enjoying, liberating, modifying, promoting and sharing POSITIVE [or pertinent] community oriented multimedia.
Goals
-
Organize computer and media training content and contribute to wiki based content already in existence [e.g. wikiversity]
-
Help students realize their potential in using Free/Libre Open Source Software in both their studies and into their careers.
-
Collect archival multimedia on a local level for future persons to utilize in understanding their community and heritage.
-
Assist individuals in gaining access to technologies [e.g. PCs, Software or the Internet] and offer instruction on using the technologies.
- Equip teams to carry out instruction, raise public awareness about copyleft media and document their surroundings efficiently and legally.
GNUmedia is a networking website for content producers and the general public. It is our aim to facilitate the creation of [[Copyleft]] audiovisual artifacts. To this end we will promote knowledge regarding the use of tools ([[Software Libre]]) to produce, distribute and archive community multi-media in a distributed and collaborative fashon.
We produce multi-media because it is our passion. We promote [[Copyleft]] and Freedoms of knowledge and communications. We have the liberties to create, access, study, remix, display, promote, critique, review, and eschew the culture which surrounds us. There are millions of smiles every day! Lets try and capture some of those moments to share with the community.
GNUmedia is not directly affiliated with the Free Software Foundation, GNU’s Not Unix, or the Creative Commons.
